Alparslan Kabasakal, born into the post-migrant generation, uses photography to articulate what is most essential to him: empathy.
His first major public presentation came with the solo exhibition Modern Yörük – Nomads of Turkey at Stiftung Reinbeckhallen in Berlin, accompanied by the publication of a photobook that received the German Photo Book Award in Bronze. The project, both a search for the nomadic roots of his Anatolian ancestors and the culmination of his Bachelor of Arts in Photography, was developed under the guidance of Anna-Rosa Krau and Michael Biedowicz.
Today, Kabasakal’s work turns toward the present, exploring themes of cultural identity, belonging, longing, and solitude. Moving beyond a strictly documentary approach, his practice increasingly embraces a more subjective and narrative form of visual storytelling..
